Set this date in your diary – on the 13th February 2015 a new eight-part ITV series “Barging Around Britain” will see John Sergeant tour Britain’s iconic waterways via a narrow boat.
The former political journalist (and who can forget Strictly?) will go on a slow journey from to Staffordshire to Scotland, investigating the history of eight routes.
But of course we think the stars of the show will be our lovely Black Prince narrowboats – see how many you can spot over the course of the series!
John Sergeant comments about the programme “You think it’s just going to be an ordinary journey but it doesn’t have that ordinariness about it. There are people we meet that will surprise and interest you and there are scenes that I don’t think people will expect in a travelogue.”
Ian Lamarra of production company Alaska TV said: “John has huge warmth and is enthusiastic about the subject. He’s even sleeping on the barge. Shooting over last summer was a real treat, the end result will look amazing and showcase the best of the British Isles.”
The series follows Channel 4’s hit show Great Canal Journeys, staring Timothy West and Prunella Scales, who borrowed a Black Prince boat to discover four beautiful narrowboat routes through England and France.
