Stoke Prior 138 84 60 Suitable for 10 Nights or 2 Week holidays

Cruise into the heart of Shakespeare country through Worcestershire and Warwickshire to the birthplace of the England’s most famous playwright.

Shakespeare country, Stratford upon Avon

Your journey begins at our Stoke Prior hire base, located on the ourskirts of Worcester in lovely Worcestershire countryside. This historic canal village is the perfect place to cast off, offering a tranquil start to your adventure along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.

Worcester

Firstly, you’ll cruise through several locks into Worcester, a city steeped in history and charm. It was here in 1651 that Oliver Cromwell’s army claimed victory in the final battle of the English Civil War. Worcester’s skyline is dominated by its magnificent 12th-century cathedral, perched above the River Severn. This small city was once a thriving centre for glove making and porcelain and it worth a visit if you have time.

Join the River Severn

After the city of Worcester you’ll swap the canal to join the River Severn, and this leads you through pretty countryside until you reach Tewkesbury, where the River Avon joins the mighty River Severn – a natural confluence that has shaped the town for centuries.

Tewkesbury

This pretty little market town on the edge of the Cotswolds is renowned for its medieval timber-framed buildings and the impressive Tewkesbury Abbey, whose Norman tower has stood for nearly a thousand years. With cobbled alleys and charming tea rooms, it’s a place where time feels wonderfully suspended.

Evesham

Continuing on the River Avon, your next stop is Evesham, a historic riverside town famed for its market gardening heritage and the once-grand Evesham Abbey, dissolved by Henry VIII. The surrounding Vale of Evesham is known for its blossoms in spring. Moor up here to enjoy peaceful riverside walks and a slice of village life at its best.

Stratford upon Avon

Your journey culminates at Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. This picturesque town is alive with Tudor architecture, flower-filled gardens, and a vibrant arts scene. Moor your boat close to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and explore the streets that inspired the world’s greatest playwright.

After soaking up the charm and culture of Stratford, you will return the same way, taking in the route from a whole new perspective until you are back at our hire base in Stoke Prior.
