A narrowboat break on the UK waterways will be a different kind of group holiday – one filled with both action and relaxation. The days are active and fun as you navigate the canals and rivers, the locks a great place for developing your teamwork skills with friends and family! Then the evenings are relaxing and chilled, with guests usually heading to the nearest pub for dining and drinks, in the company of great friends.

This type of holiday in the UK is great for family get-togethers or a child-friendly summer holiday. It’s a self-catered holiday, meaning you can choose between creating meals to suit your own group or head to the waterside pubs and restaurants for relaxing nights out.

BIG SPACE… ON A NARROW BOAT!

This type of holiday means that you and your friends will be living and sleeping in a space that’s probably a little smaller than you are used to! However, prepare to be surprised at how the design of our boats caters for groups quite comfortably, our narrowboats offer a luxury group holiday.

Our largest self-catered boats can sleep eight people in set beds, with flexible layouts of double and single beds. To separate the bedroom areas, there are doors to give each sleeping area some privacy. Two extra guests can be accommodated in the living area, where a sofa bed can be utilised, taking the maximum number of guests up to ten.

Some Black Prince boats, for example the Princess 6, offer two shower rooms, which are perfect for larger groups and couples holidaying together who prefer their own private washing and WC space.

Guests tend to be surprised at the amount of storage onboard, with a good amount of space available in wardrobes and under bed storage for all your luggage. We recommend to all parties that you pack your luggage into bags that can be easily folded (as opposed to hard, shell suitcases) so you can maximise the space available on board.

The boats are child-friendly and so make a great family summer holiday. Cot sides can be fitted to the single beds and life-jackets are provided for the younger ones, whilst there is a TV and DVD player for the older ones.

Each boat has its own galley kitchen, perfect for a self-catered option. With a fridge, oven with hob, sink and a full set of crockery and cutlery, it’s fun and easy to cook up meals or alternatively there are always plenty of pubs and canal-side restaurants within easy reach. Self-catering is sometimes a more child-friendly option for a holiday and children often enjoy the experience of cooking on the narrowboat.

GROUP BOOKING WEEKENDS AND SHORT BREAKS

Black Prince offers short breaks, including long weekends and midweek breaks for all our holidays in the UK. If you are looking to book a holiday for a large group then you can hire a canal boat for groups of up to ten people. You can choose between a three, four, seven, ten or fourteen night break; please check each of our canal boat hire base pages for the starting days available (bases start from a variety of days including Friday, Saturday, Mondays and Tuesdays).

We can offer holiday deals – speak to us out our Fleet Discount if you would like to book more than one boat, and look out for our late deals if you need something last minute.

We offer weekend breaks over bank holidays which tend to be very popular – great for a friends and family get-together. Be sure to book early, as these tend to book quickly during the summer holidays.

CAPTAIN OF THE GROUP

On arrival at the canal boat hire base, one person from your group needs to elected as the ‘Captain’ of the boat. This person must be aged 25 years or over. Though there is no age limit for driving the boat, the Captain is responsible for the boat and all their guests. Be aware – we do reserve the right to cancel a booking if our team decides that a group does not appear to be responsible enough to take control of one of our boats!

SPECIAL OCCASIONS

If you’re looking to book a group holiday as a special occasion, then be sure to call our friendly reservations team to discuss boat options and best routes plus give you any help on any special requirements you may have. Major supermarkets will deliver to most of our bases, saving you time and hassle on the day in getting your supplies to the boat – perfect for those bottles of champagne you may wish to celebrate with!

Often, our guests will invite friends and family to visit the boat whilst it’s out cruising. Perfect for special occasions and enjoying some well-deserved family time.

GROUP BOOKING HOLIDAY OFFERS

If you would like to hire more than one boat, you can book two or more, subject to availability. Each additional boat booked by the same party would benefit from our Fleet Discount of a 5% saving.
We recommend our bases at the Stoke Prior marina in Worcestershire and the Peak District marina in Staffordshire for multiple boat bookings, as there is more boat availability to choose from at those marinas.
