NEW TO CANAL BOAT HOLIDAYS

Never been on a canal holiday before?

If you’ve never been on a canal holiday before, we understand the prospect of a holiday on the water can be a little daunting – especially when it comes to being in charge of your own boat and operating the locks!

Black Prince expertise

Firstly, let us reassure you that our expert team at Black Prince will meet and greet you on arrival at one of our bases, and are on hand to give you a full induction. We’ll talk you through the facilities on board, how to drive the boat, how to operate a lock and everything else you need to know for your holiday. Our handovers are industry accredited and all of our bases have been audited to make sure we maintain a high standard.

Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you like and to make you feel more comfortable, we can even stay on board for the first stretch of your journey until you feel confident. Once you have set off, there is a detailed boat manual on board and round-the-clock assistance should you need help.

Short breaks or a longer holiday?

Most ‘first-timers’ start with a short break of either 3 or 4 nights – before getting bitten by the waterways bug and enjoying a longer holiday! You can enjoy a 3 or 4 days break from either a Friday afternoon to Monday morning, from Monday afternoon to Friday morning, from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon and from Wednesday morning to Saturday morning,. Prices start from as little as £77 per person.

If you fancy diving straight into a 7, 14 or 21 night holiday then that’s absolutely fine too!
Please note – Monday or Friday departures are not available from Falkirk, and departures from London and Ely are Friday and Monday only.

Holidays for children

Travelling with children? The younger ones find narrowboat holidays fantastic fun: working the locks, cycling along the towpaths, even steering the boat – plus making friends along the way. It’s an ideal holiday for children – a perfect mixture of active fun and relaxing down time. A TV, DVD and freeview may not be that important to you on an outdoor holiday, but the mod cons on a Black Prince boat are there to keep all the family happy!

Holidays for couples or friends

The wide variety of boats available with Black Prince means that you can find accommodation that suits you. Choose from a 2 berth to a 10 berth, with a variety of options for single or double berth configurations.
