A London canal boat holiday that follows a clockwise loop into the heart of the capital. This active cruise kicks off from Willow Tree marina in Middlesex and then heads through Little Venice to the Paddington Basin.

At Little Venice stop off for the Puppet Theatre Barge, Cascade Art Gallery and Warwick Castle Pub. Upon arrival at the Paddington Basin you can visit a host of famous attractions including Portobello Road Market, London Zoo, Regent’s Park and the “Home of Cricket”, Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Follow the London Ring onto the Limehouse Basin, which offers great restaurants and pubs as well as the Docklands museum. Limehouse is also only a short journey on the Docklands Light Railway away from Canary Wharf and North Greenwich, where you can find spectacular buildings, shopping centres and the O2 Arena.

From the Limehouse Basin you will go onto the Thames and head upstream. For this you will need a valid VHF radio licence and tide tables to tell you when the Thames lock will be open. You must prepare for this before travelling.

Once travelling up the Thames you’ll see famous bridges, the historic Tower of London, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, as well as the bustling artistic and cultural area of the Southbank, where you can look across the river for beautiful views of central London.

This area is also only a short underground or bus journey from London’s buzzing Theatre District, the West End, which boasts the best musicals the country has to offer. In the vicinity you will also find Chinatown, perfect for an evening meal, and the busy shopping district surrounding Oxford Street.

Once you continue on your travels, you can head further upstream to Brentford. Within walking distance of Brentford you’ll find the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and the Kew Bridge Steam museum, which are both well worth a visit.

From Brentford you will enter the Grand Union Canal, up the Hanwell flight of locks and return to base.
